Beard Care FAQs

Is Beard Care a real thing?

Yes! Beard Care is very real. Men have beards. Beards need care.  And here's my take on it.

What is Beard Oil/Balm/Wax?

Beard Oil is a combination of all natural oils that help moisturize your beard, keep it healthy, and give off a great scent. The end result is a softer, healthier, shinier (not greasy), and less wild beard.
Beard Balm is similar to Beard Oil except that is has Natural Shea, Cocoa butter and Beeswax added. This allows for a little more control over your beard.
In addition to keeping your beard in check, Beard Oil/Balm/Wax is also very good for the skin underneath your beard.

Applying Oil/Balm

I recommend you do this daily.  Especially, during the dry, cold winter months.
Step 1. An average size (1-2 inch) beard only needs around 4-6 drops of oil or a finger nail sized amount of balm, though some people like to use or may require more.
Step 2. Rub the beard balm/oil between your fingers until it melts completely and massage into your beard starting at the roots.
Step 3. For best results use our comb to help spread the balm/oil evenly throughout your beard.
Step 4. Enjoy the sweet scent of your beard balm throughout the day and enjoy the ladies wanting to touch your silky smooth beard.

How long will the oil or balm last me?

The 10ml bottle of oil should last a couple of weeks if using daily. The 30ml bottle of oil should last a month to 6 weeks.
Our 30ml tin of balm should last the average beard about a month if using most days.

Oil vs. Balm

Both have the same purpose, and basically the same ingredients.  The big difference is, balm is made with butters and waxes that give it a thick consistency, allowing it to provide more weight and hold.  Oil, on the other hand is basically a conditioner only.

Cleaning

You don't want to over-wash your beard.  Every time you wash it, you strip it of the natural oils that keep it healthy.  Unless you work in a dirty environment, you only need to wash it once or twice a week.  You should also make sure that you are using an, all-natural soap or shampoo.
Rinse it daily with cool water.

Brushing/Combing

You should only brush it once after applying your oil/balm in the morning, and maybe once at night.  I recommend using a boar's bristle brush (coming soon to TBBCo).  During the day, use a comb to remove any dust or crumbs that may have accumulated or just as a tidy up.

Stroking

Rubbing, brushing, stroking is counter-productive to keeping a healthy beard.  I know it's awesome, but try to leave it alone…..this is the one I struggle with most!

Blow Drying

I don't.  This is entirely up to you. The forced air can rob the hair of its natural moisture.  I prefer to towel dry, and then apply my oil and balm.  If you do decide to use a dryer, its best to use it AFTER you oil and balm your beard as these will help to protect the hair.

“My ‘tache irritates me”

It gets in your mouth, it gets in your soup, it annoys you.  I've heard it all, and I've been through it too.  Basically, decide whether or not you want a longer moustache that you can style.  If you do, you just have to push through the uncomfortable stage.  Brush it to the side, and use balm or even a firm wax to hold it in place if you need to.  This is essentially training it and after a while, it will naturally be that way and you'll have an awesome tache.

IT ITCHES!!!

This is a normal thing for most men just starting out.  Unfortunately, it is also one of the main reasons many men give up and shave.  You're going to experience at least a little itch, but you're a man right?  You can handle it.  Make sure you are rinsing your beard out every day with cool water.  Dead skin from your face is shedding and getting caught in your beard, you need to rinse it out.  The beard oil/balm will also help with this.  Make sure that you work it down to your skin when you applying it, as well conditioned skin is just as important as well conditioned hair.
Beard Oil and balm can stop your skin from being itchy! They help nourish the skin and relieve itching in addition to making your beard awesome!

If I cant grow a beard or my beard is patchy, will this give me the beard I desperately want?

Our products contain essential oils that increase blood flow to the area it is applied to which helps facilitate hair growth, and oils that nourish and smooth hair to reduce the amount of hair lost naturally and while brushing or combing.
